Please note however that the Black Shack is an adult only property.
Please note
The second double bedroom at the Black Shack is accessed via the master bedroom or the rear deck and is therefore only suited to a close family member or friend. It is separated with a sliding door for privacy. And finally, one of the public entrances to the beach is next door to this property, however privacy is totally maintained by a 2m high fence.
Strictly no parties at this property – please. You will be evicted if this rule is broken.
Summer Season Bookings: 13 Dec 2024 and 23 Jan 2025 - Minimum 7 night booking - Arrival and departure on a Friday. If booking online, please search for vacancies with Friday being the arrival and departure day. Summer Season bookings are most easily made directly with our Bookings Team.
Where will I be?
The Black Shack is in the best location in Hyams Beach. It is merely metres from the sand. Spend the evening listening to the waves, and wake each morning to an incredible sunrise over Jervis Bay. Enjoy a gentle stroll along the beach and visit the famous Hyams Beach Cafe which is only a short walk up the road.

Be the envy of everyone by having stayed in Hyams' most exclusive beach shack. Fashion designer Nicola Waite has designed this beautiful minimalist beach retreat with her dramatic creative signature. The Black Shack, although right in the centre of Hyams Beach, has a sense of total privacy, allowing the most relaxing of holidays.
How is the property laid out?
The Black Shack is completely open plan and the design elements flow through into each of the clearly defined areas. The interior space has lime-washed wooden floors and stylised furnishings complimentary to the black interior throughout. The well equipped kitchen has an electric oven, ceramic cooktop, integrated dishwasher and bar fridge with freezer. The open screened master bedroom has a queen bed styled with luxury linen. The small second bedroom with a double bed is accessed via the master or, for greater privacy, from one of the rear decks. The walk-in wet room has floor to ceiling concrete tiles and complimentary Aesop toiletries are provided for guest use, making the Black Shack a truly opulent experience. There is an external European style laundry on the side of the front deck with both washing machine and clothes dryer.
Wi-Fi, internet, Netflix or pay TV- will I have it?
The Black Shack has both Wi-Fi and Chromecast has been attached to the TV.
What about outdoors?
An elevated series of rear decks provide breath-taking views of Point Perpendicular, Bowen Island and the glistening waters of Jervis Bay. The large garden is part gravel and part lush lawn. Selective use of screens, border trees and the surrounding forest create a sense of complete privacy. A hot/cold outdoor shower is well positioned beside the back decks.
Keeping warm or keeping cool?
The Black Shack has reverse cycle air-conditioning in the main space, comfortably heating or cooling the entire home. There is also a ceiling fan in the master bedroom.
What about sheets, towels and other supplies?
Luxurious pure cotton and linen sheets, towels and luxury Aesop bathroom toiletries are provided at the Black Shack. Please bring your own beach towels however.
Parking for cars, boats etc?
Off street parking for up to 2 cars is provided. Parking is restricted to the gravel driveway, and there is to be no parking on the grass.
Is my dog or cat also welcome to stay?
Sorry, the Black Shack is not pet friendly.
What are the minimum stay rules?
- Summer Season: Between 2 and 7 nights, depending on the property
- Easter: 4 nights
- Long Weekends: 3 nights
- All other times: 2 nights
Are there any special Summer Season rules?
Please note that during Summer Season, our properties may have designated changeover days so as to make the cleaning rosters manageable. We also do not schedule arrivals on the Christmas, Boxing, and New Years Day public holidays.

This property is professionally managed by a dedicated holiday rental agency with offices in Gerringong, Hyams Beach and Bowral. We do have a few small suggestions - none of which detract from our stay but may be nice additions - steak knives, a larger cutting board, cheese grater, ice cube tray, dust pan & brush, a lighter over the BBQ and a couple of coat hangers to use on the ladders for shirts/ dresses. We very much appreciated the lovely bottle of wine and sparkling water upon our arrival :-).

Charles A - 28th January 2021We enjoyed our short stay at the Black Shack, everything worked well, good showers with strong water pressure both inside and out, a comfortable bed and Netflix on TV, though strangely no ABC. The location is superb just a short walk from the garden to the beach. Two tips for future renters, the air con needs to be switched on, on the bottom of the unit, and the Salty Crab, (next to the mega Woolworths, a 10 minute drive), is an exceptional take-out for up-market Fish and Chips.

Alex B - 10th January 2021Hi, we had a great stay. The location is marvellous by you cannot get any closer to the best part of the beach. The shack is definitely only for two people. A third would be cramped. Lovely views from the deck and the constant sound of the ocean. Decor is simple and on theme. The only shortcoming with the property was having a mini bar fridge meant regular trips out of Hyam’s as we stayed for a week and could not keep food fresh and drinks cold. Apart from that 10/10.
Fantastic stay, literally right on beach. Stylish and modern, everything you need. Full kitchen and bbq to settle in and recommend do own food as there isn’t much else but the cafe which was very busy and slow. Property is awesome, would return.
My partner and I had an absolutely wonderful stay at the ‘little black shack’. It’s location is perfect, the beach at your doorstep and a great coffee/breakfast within 2 minutes walk. The place itself is beautifully designed, and a bottle of wine on arrival was a lovely touch! Would highly recommend
The black shack makes for a perfect relaxing getaway.
Everyone who walks by The Black Shack can’t help but stare as it really is a beautiful home in a quite stunning location. We were lulled to sleep both nights by the sound of the sea and loved hearing and seeing the many birds in the surrounding trees. The private gate to the beach is special. The back deck is a wonderful place to sit and contemplate - you never tire of the view. It’s a lovely compact space that worked really well for our family of three. The beds were extremely comfortable, the towels big and soft and it just felt very luxe. Although we had a lot of rain over the weekend, we felt happily tucked away from the elements. The bottle of wine and mineral water was a nice welcome. We would definitely come again.
We enjoyed our stay very much. The shack is beautiful and the location perfect next to the beach surrounded by trees. We loved it here.
